If a hard mod, I'd want to know that it was performed by a reputable modder or to see photos of the installation. If a soft mod, I'd want to know that it was performed or updated in the last few years and uses a "modern" dashboard. If you're going to buy a pre-modded console, I'd make sure the seller knows what they are selling. Video cables to allow for resolutions higher than 480i, larger hard drives, and wireless controller dongles come to mind. I think there's still a lot of fun to be had with an OG Xbox and some inexpensive ways to make the experience even better than it was in the early 00s. But I think it’s not for everyone for sure. Also I’m sure there are things like Raspberry pi’s and custom emulation boxes that run retro arch and can provide a much better value for your money.įor me, OG Xbox makes sense because I already had a modded Wii U (which again IMO offers a much better library of games) but I was still interested enough in the process of modding and in the various Xbox exclusives that it makes sense for me to also own an OG. The Wii and Wii U are easier to mod and have a better library (IMO). But if you’re just looking for a cheap way to play a lot of older video games, there are much better options. If those things don’t turn you off, it can be a good purchase and a lot of fun. So I feel like the decision for you will come down to whether you enjoy playing around with tech and have he money to spend. So you’re looking at about $150 plus whatever the console costs. Soft or hard mod ($50 for that, give or take) Harddrive upgrade (another $50 for drive and adapter) The newest V1.6 have a bug with the video chip on a handful of games which is annoying The main issue is going to be cost/benefit. This makes it quite easy to use modern Controllers like the Xbox 360 or Xbox One/Series Controller on the OG Xbox. If you are too afraid to mod the system yourself there are some send in services that do it for you.Ī recommendation from my site since Xbox Controllers aren't quite cheap on the used market: Look into a OGX360 (links to Github Repo) Adapter. Also make sure to lock the Drive, if you want to be able to access the MS Dashboard so you can sign up for Insignia and play online again. It's easier to swap drives with a Hardmodded system than with a softmodded one. The console that i bought recently has a Wii2HDMI internal mod and the image is pretty sharp and not really noisy.Īlso consider getting a 80 pin IDE Cable and a IDE to SATA Adapter to be able to use modern drives in your Xbox. If you plan on using it on a modern TV consider using something like a Xbox2HDMI, Xedusa, Chimeric HDMI Adapter or install a internal mod like the XboxHD+ or (i might get some hate for this) solder in the internals of a Wii2HDMI Adapter onto the board so it taps into the digital signal. Pick out the later Revisions that got well maintained/serviced, since these are less prone to failure. Hard modded with a OpenXenium Modchip is the best solution in my opinion. ANY advice or tips or links with help would be greatly appreciated :) I’ve been searching all over and feel like most terminology is a totally different language lolol. Is there any videos/FAQs/tutorials for someone starting from absolutely scratch like me. Do 360 emulators even exist yet?Īfter getting the console, what mods should b done for a really good build and what is good source to buy the supplies? Like literally where do i start after getting og xbox (or is a 360 a better mod canidate)? I have the r2d2 360 gathering dust in front of me totally working.
